Oregon is home to many species that have both medicinal and culinary properties. This is just one of many medicinal plants of the Pacific Northwest that has multiple uses.
Of course, many plants also have other medicinal uses. For example, the popular blueberry is both a tasty berry as well as an herbal remedy for a whole host of ailments. Its use as a sweetener in baking has made it very popular in places like Seattle. Some of the Pacific Northwest’s other medicinal plants include black pepper, Clove oil, and sage.
Considered As Wild Plants
A number of the Pacific Northwest’s medicinal plants are actually considered wild plants. A few examples of these are the sage, Pennyroyal, and the false unicorn. Each of these plants has its own unique medicinal value. For instance, the false unicorn is an herbal plant that can be used to treat nausea. Sage is a useful herb for relieving stomach pain and indigestion while Pennyroyal can help relieve bladder and bowel problems.
Many Pacific Northwest medicinal plants do not actually fall under the category of medicinal plants. One good example of this is the evergreen shrub Kalanchoe. This evergreen can also be used in a lot of recipes. It has a mild sedative effect that is great for calming nervous children or individuals. Other examples of this type of medicinal plant include the famous cactus flower. The cactus flower has been used for centuries to treat such things as diarrhea, low blood pressure, and ulcers.
