How Did The Researchers Find Out That Tau And Not The Blood Flow Leads to Dementia

For experimentation, the researchers fed a male mouse, which is 8 years old, a diet rich in sodium. They also did the same thing with a female mouse that was 4-36 weeks old. The scientists performed three tests on them. The first test was molecular studies, the second was cerebrovascular, and the third was the behavioral study. These experiments revealed that the low amount of nitric oxide affected the tau protein levels in the brain. The production of a lesser amount of nitric oxide was due to the salt diet.

If there is too much tau protein, then that leads to Alzheimer’s. Tau also supports individual neurons. They do this by stabilizing the structures that you call microtubules. These usually transport the nutrients to the neurons, dendrites as well as axons. These are also a part of the scaffolding, cytoskeleton that mostly supports the neurons. If the Tau becomes unstable and comes out of the cytoskeleton, it is then that the problem occurs.
